There is an inspiring artist in every child. Give them an opportunity to exercise their creative muscles! The White Eagle PTA is sponsoring the Reflections Arts program. Children create art in one of six categories to express the theme:
What is the participation process?
One or more entries can be submitted by each child in one or more of the six categories which include: Visual Arts, Photography, Literature, Music Composition, Dance Choreography, and Film Production. Each student’s work is judged on artistic merit, creativity, mastery of the medium, and interpretation of the theme. Five entries in each category are chosen from all submissions in the two class divisions (KG - 2nd grade and 3rd - 5th grade) and then advance to the IPPC level (Indian Prairie Parents’ Council representing District 204). These entries will be judged at the district level along with entries from other participating schools and then advance to the next level. If entries from our school keep advancing they will make it up to the national level. Two White Eagle students’ entries made Honorable mention at the State level in 2009-2010; three in 2010-2011!! In 2011-2012, three students received Honorable mentions at the State level and one of our Student advanced to the National Level!!
About the theme
The 2015-2016 National PTA Reflections Theme is: "What is your story?"
Children are to interpret the theme in any way they feel appropriate. This broad based theme gives way to many different interpretations. Students should be encouraged to use their creative, critical- thinking, and problem-solving skills to generate their own original work. Only new works that are inspired by this theme are acceptable. All projects must clearly reflect the child’s work and relate to and interpret this year’s theme.
Theme Search Contest
Students are also encouraged to participate in the Theme selection competition. A White Eagle student’s theme idea is currently being considered nationally for the 2016-2017 school year.
Even if your child’s entry doesn’t advance beyond the school level, each child will be awarded a ribbon at the end of school year by the PTA to acknowledge their effort.
Due Date: October 14th, 2016.
Please watch out for more information on the Reflections event and entry forms coming home with your child.
